Description

Hosted by the wonderful Melissa Fire Horse from Bones of the Earth, spend the weekend taking a deep dive into natural tanning methods and go home with your own natural tanned sheep skin.

What is natural tanning?

You shall learn how to tan with both emulsified fats (many recipes from brains, to eggs, soap and oil) and wild-harvested tannin with both dry and wet scrape methods that will give you the knowledge to create your own furs and leathers.

It truly is our most sustainable fabric.

How is this different from modern tanning?

The majority of modern leather is made with chrome, creating an inferior leather with massive environmental and health costs

Who is teaching?

My name is Daniel Sainty; I tan furs,  leathers traditionally while living on the land with goats as prime resources and sharing ancestral technologies. Excited to share these skills that will allow you to honour the animals and leave you with amazing leather.

Natural tanning requires considerable physical effort, please contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Want to work with a friend on a hide together? Partner tickets are available.

Bring your swag, we shall share a fireside meal Saturday night.

(Possibility to arrive Friday night, and to stay Sunday night as well)
